Back to Tradition - Skovin

The wine cellar "Skovin" was founded in 1979 and for the inhabitants of Skopje, it has always had a special meaning of a place where you can find tasty homemade wine. After many turbulent years of transition, Skovin got a new owner in 1999 and the new leaf in its history could be turned.

The vineyards of "Skovin" cover 450 hectares in the Skopje valley. Our grapes contain sharpness of winter ice and heat of long and dry summers, reflecting the climate of our region. Annual number of sunny days ranging from 160 to 170, average temperatures between 12 and 14oC, location in unpolluted regions far from the industrial facilities and other environmental aspects add to raising grapes of high quality and abundant in sugar. About 4000 t grapes is average harvest. The additional quantity of grapes needed to produce wine is bought from Macedonian vine growers, coming mainly from the Povardarie region.

The capacity of the cellar is to process 23 million kilos grapes and to store it in own stainless steel tanks, with the capacity of 16 million liters.

The most famous grape types produced in Skovin are: Merlot, Burgunder, Vranec and Cabernet Sauvignon sorted from among the red and Semillon, Smederevka, R'kaciteli, Zupljanka and our old friend Riesling from the white grapes.

Technical conditions for production of quality wine are fully met in Skovin; the most contemporary equipment has been purchased from the Italian manufacturers Siprem, Spadoni, Gimar, Enoveneta and others.

Skovin now has its own bottling line with a capacity of 3000 bottles/hour purchased from the Italian manufacturer Alfatek. Until 2004 Skovin introduced a remarkable pallet of 10 wines, recognizable on the market and awarded both on international and local fairs and exhibitions.
